Åurora Program

The Åurora Program is a collective of award-winning directors, Prolific Artists students, established independent filmmakers, writers and Prolific Artists faculty, with the sole mission of producing a top-tier festival worthy feature-length film. The Program is classified as the steppingstone for the actor’s future. It is destined for artists with a powerful voice and rebellious uncontainable Oscar Qualifying acting talent. Our mission is for our students to take full control of their future, by collaborating, producing and acting in the most innovative and powerfully performed film they can create; thus being recognized by Sundance, Cannes, Berlin and/or Venice film festivals.

Årk Program

The Årk Program follows the same core mission as the Åurora Program, however it differs in the complexity and challenge of producing and acting duties. The Årk Program’s priority is to introduce students to high end producing and filmmaking experiences by having them produce and act in an award-worthy short film in order to qualify and prepare for the Åurora Program. The film must be recognized by a top-tier film festival. The Program serves as an instrument for the actor’s creativity and is destined for actors with a powerful vision and disciplined goals.

❝ You can't shine if you have two lines as a bus driver. You can only shine if you're included in the narrative, and narratives start when you put pen to paper and you use your imagination. You just tell a story. That's all you do. You tell a story. You don't put any boundaries on it. It's infinite and that's the only way we can do what we do is that people use their imaginations so that we can lead and be included in it. ❞

ABOUT THE PROGRAMS

The Åurora & Årk Programs are designed to nurture emerging actors into creating success for themselves. An actor waiting to be cast in a Television Series, Successful Independent Film, or Hollywood Picture can be waiting for quite some time and for some, a lifetime. With the Prolific Collective, actors are now given the opportunity to produce their ideal script with an award-winning director, award-winning crew and funds granted by Prolific Artists.
After an actor takes part in a small role on TV or Film, a career is not built, nor is the actor genuinely wanted by the industry. The goal of most actors, is to be a working actor. Both financially and artistically. However, with the current world we now live in, standing out is rather challenging. Taking full control of your roles and getting the needed recognition is difficult. As Sidney Poitier once said to an unknown up and coming Denzel Washington, “The first two, three or four films you make, will dictate where your career will go. It will paint a picture of the kind of actor you are, and you will be perceived accordingly”.
The Åurora Program at Prolific Artists would like to grant guidance of how you are perceived, where your career goes and the kind of actor you become. Prolific Artists stands committed to bringing the lead actors of a feature film and the film itself recognition at international Top-Tier Festivals.
The low budget independent film “Winter’s Bone” was nominated for 4 Academy Awards and was the film that brought recognition, world fame, and awards to Jennifer Lawrence. At the time of casting, Jennifer was an unknown actress, but after having shined in a lead role, it brought her the much desired success she needed for her career. Granted however, her artistry, genius and talent were already at a stage for an Oscar, but with the right script, the right director, the right cinematographer and the right editor, success was created and destined. Likewise, the heart wrenching film “Fruitvale Station” starring A-lister Michael B. Jordan, was the film that brought then unknown actor Michael B. Jordan Hollywood stardom. Michael ended up winning an extensive amount of best actor awards. The film was made on a mere $710k shooting budget in 2011, won the Audience Award and the Grand Jury Award at Sundance Film Festival, won Un Certain Regard and Golden Camera Award at Cannes Film Festival, won an Independent Spirit Award and more. For this reason, Prolific Artists demands that certain requirements are fully met before we can engage, guide and prepare you and your team for the journey of producing and acting in a festival-worthy feature film. As one of our students puts it, “the only thing standing between you and a best-actor award at Sundance is a great script and a great director”.
The Åurora and Årk Programs are only open to current registered and former students at Prolific Artists. The year-long programs are designed to nurture actor/producers with project-specific support through the Prolific Collective, Audacity Innovative, and Interline Relations PR. Finding our students scripts, directors and crew, Prolific Artists grants up to $20,000 in equity financing and/or production services. We also grant year-round mentorship from one industry mentor and ongoing support from Prolific Artists founder Cristhian Andrews. The Program is not only designed to create success for the actors, but also hone emerging actor/producers’ creative instincts and evolve their communicating and problem-solving skills at all stages of their next feature film project.

GRANTS & FELLOWSHIPS

All Årk & Åurora Program films will receive direct introduction and referrals to award-winning directors. Prolific Artists will be in charge of contracting and securing an award-winning script, an ideal award-winning director for each film as well as an award-winning main crew (Director of Photography, Editor, Production Designer & Composer). Prolific Artists will be granting guidance for the production process and sometimes for the creative process shall the production need it. Some films may receive grants of up to $20,000 each depending on numerous factors that contribute to the outcome of the film’s success. Aside from grants, films may also receive pre-production, production or post-production services that equal anywhere from $5,000 to $30,000. Special mentorship offered to the film’s main producers is granted through out the production of the film. Mentors vary and are selected based on numerous factors on a per application basis.

SCREENING, PREMIERES & AWARD CEREMONY

All completed films are privately screened in a midtown theater for participating actor/producers and crew, as well as all students courtesy of Prolific Artists. Actors are encouraged to invite guests to the private premiere. Occasionally, some industry members will and may attend depending on numerous factors on the films we are screening. Keep in mind, some film festivals have World Premiere and North American Premiere requirements, therefore an abundant amount of press or publicity must not be done, other than private Facebook and email invites.
At the premiere, renowned faculty members and founder Cristhian Andrews will be present. Their presence will mostly be for judging and selecting the top films for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director & Best Script Nominations at Prolific Artists. A total of 7 Prolific Statutes will be handed at a later awards ceremony in Tribeca. Prolific Artists is currently in progress of being accepted by IMDb as an Award Ceremony. The nominations and wins for those nominated and winning actors will appropriately show on actor’s IMDb profiles.

ÅURORA PROGRAM DISCLAIMER:
Should you be selected to participate in the Åurora Program (feature films only), you will be asked to continue the spirit of giving back. Since securing funding for Prolific Collective’s programs is a consistent challenge, we request that Åurora participants whose projects are being produced, contribute to the Prolific Collective’s infrastructure to support new generations of emerging Åurora actors. Projects supported by Prolific Artists are asked to contribute half of one percent (0.5%) of their production budget calculated after the first $250,000 thousand dollars (e.g. if your film is produced for $260,000+, the fee due to Prolific Collective would be $1,300 but only after the $250,000 mark). Additionally, Åurora & Årk Alumni are asked to recognize the Prolific Collective with the credit block, “Developed with the assistance and support of Prolific Artists Åurora Program.” Any revenue that is designated to the Prolific Collective is allocated to the Åurora Program and distributed annually on a per project basis to provide critical support for Åurora Program entrants.
